Located in the heart of Virginia’s horse country, 51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s Equestrian Team is a vital part of the college community. The team, established in 2010, helps its members in ways that go far beyond their education, like building relationships, honing life skills, developing campus community, and helping students gain greater exposure and experience in equestrian competitions and training.

Our Facilities
The RMC Equestrian Center is owned and operated by 51³Ô¹ÏÍø. Located less than 10 minutes west of campus, the facility features an indoor arena, two outdoor arenas, and 75 acres of lush pasture.

do I need to have my own horse to participate on the equestrian team?
Riders on the IHSA Team do not need to have their own horse to participate in competition. IHSA rules require all horses be provided by the host college, and competitors select their horses by random draw. There are horses available at the RMC Equestrian Center on which riders can train.
Members of the Eventing Team must have their own horse for training and competition.
is the equestrian team only for experienced riders?
No. We welcome and encourage riders of all levels and experience to become part of the team. Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) competitions are open to riders from beginner (walk/trot) through experienced (open division).
Does randolph-Macon provide the opportunity to bring my horse to college?
Students can bring their own horse to board at the state-of-the-art RMC Equestrian Center, located just three miles from campus. Horses must be appropriate for the RMC equestrian program and are evaluated by our coaches and staff before permission is granted.
can i still join the equestrian team if i’m not interested in competing?
While all members of the Equestrian Team must be actively taking lessons, we welcome riders in all disciplines, at all levels of experience, whether interested in competing or not.
what is the cost of riding at randolph-macon?
Lesson fees are $500 per semester for ten lessons. (Additional lessons may be arranged directly with 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Equestrian Center.) In addition, each team member pays IHSA dues (currently $45). Lessons with our Eventing team coach are private and cost $75. RMC covers the cost of entry fees for the IHSA competitions and for the USEA Collegiate Challenges for the Eventing Team.
