Students are strongly encouraged to carry personal health insurance, and are eligible to purchase student insurance through a partnership with Aetna.

The deadline to enroll or waive coverage is August 31 for undergraduates, and February 28 for PA graduate students.

Full-time RMC undergraduate students (12 or more credit hours) and graduate students (6 or more credit hours) are eligible to purchase RMC student health insurance with contracted rates and coverage offered by Aetna. 51³Ô¹ÏÍø for details on the plans.

Nursing (sophomores, juniors, and seniors) and Physician Assistant students are required to All other full-time students may waive the insurance, if not purchasing the Aetna policy, but not required.

Please Note: International students should connect directly with the Office of International Education about health insurance requirements and offers of coverage.

Importance of Health Insurance Coverage for the Central Virginia Area

Students are also encouraged to contact their health insurance carriers to be sure they are covered while living in the Central Virginia Area (to include emergency room, x-rays, labs, physical therapy, and specialist visits).

Students with inadequate insurance for this area should be aware that they may incur significant costs and time away from campus to receive medical care if not covered in this area.
