Dewvaul “DQ” Tracy IV ’23 and Elisabeth Waldron ’23 were each honored with the Janet Harvey Trivette ’78 & W. Proctor Harvey, Jr. Endowed Student Award. The award was established in 2007 to honor alumna Janet Harvey Trivette ’78 and her brother W. Proctor Harvey, Jr. and celebrate their distinctive characteristics of compassion, generosity of spirit, and leadership.

Tracy, a political science major, has served as both the risk management and service chair for his fraternity, Kappa Sigma, as well as a significant mentor to fellow students as a resident assistant during his sophomore and junior years. He has served on the Student Conduct Board during his entire career at RMC. Tracy was also a member of the Franklin Debating Society that won “The Big Debate” against Hampden-Sydney this past fall.

Grant Azdell, vice president of student affairs and dean of students, quoted Tracy’s nominator as he presented the award, saying, “Anyone that knows him can vouch for his superior service to others. He is the prime example of a person who does acts of service out of the kindness of his heart.”

Waldron, an accounting major, works to empower others as the vice president of For Women and the secretary of the Black Cultural Society, and volunteers with SERVE and Habitat for Humanity. She has also worked as a pharmacy technician at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital for the past two years, in addition to her campus job with RMC’s Office of Advancement over the last four years.

In presenting the award to Waldron, Azdell noted, “Her nominator hit the nail on the head when she concluded that this student’s ‘joyous approach to life and making the world better for all makes her an ideal candidate for this award. There is no task she sees as beneath her; she is willing to get dirty to make life better for others.’”

Sullivan Award winners Faith Gizara '23 and Nicholas Chaturia '23 with President Lindgren

Nicholas Chaturia ’23 received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award and Faith Gizara ’23 received the Mary Mildred Sullivan Award in recognition of spiritual qualities applied to daily living. Chaturia is a criminology and biology double major with membership in the honor societies for each discipline. He serves as a tutor for three different subject areas and was previously the treasurer of the International Interest Group. President Robert R. Lindgren commended Chaturia as “an intelligent scholar” that possesses the “nobility of character as characterized by the Sullivan Award.”

Gizara is an English major with a minor in secondary education, working in the classroom with English language learners. She previously served as vice president of the service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega and is a small group coordinator for InterVarsity.
