Sample Family Weekend Schedule

  • 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. – Lunch, Estes Dining HallEnjoy a themed lunch in Estes. $11 for members of the family.
  • 3 p.m. – 4 p.m. – Open House
  • 5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. – Family Weekend Welcome Reception – President’s Home – Join President and Mrs. Robert R. Lindgren for the Family Weekend Reception.
  • 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. – Evening Event sponsored by the Student Engagement Center
  • 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. – Musical Performance and Dessert
  • 8 p.m. – 10 p.m.First Friday Outdoor Movie, sponsored by Common Activities Board at Brown Fountain Plaza

  • 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. – Coffee and Pastries at Jacket Java
  • 10 a.m. – Ring Ceremony – Blackwell Auditorium – Participating students are presented with 51³Ô¹ÏÍø class rings. These custom-made rings are an enduring symbol of collegiate pride and commemorate the meaningful moments in a student’s academic life.
  • 1 p.m. – RMC Football
    Note: Fall Tailgating Information
  • 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. Fall Fest – Brown Fountain Plaza – Bring your friends and family to the Fountain for an afternoon filled with your favorite fall activities and treats, including lawn games, crafts, and more! This free event is open to people of all ages.
  • 10:00 p.m. – Late Night Brock

  • 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. – Sunday Brunch, brought to you by Parkhurst – Estes Dining Hall – Enjoy fresh, made-from-scratch food and flavors that are handcrafted and personally designed by our chefs with your needs in mind. Our recipes come to life every day in our kitchens using the best ingredients, prepared in the freshest ways possible.
  • 10:30 a.m. – Family Weekend Worship Service – Duncan Memorial United Methodist, 201 Henry Street, Ashland, Va. 23005
  • 3 p.m. – Concert Event

FAQs about Family Weekend

Arrival/Departure

Parents arrive as their work obligations and other commitments permit. The more popular events are generally scheduled for late-afternoon on Friday into Saturday. No check-in is required!

Accommodations

See our links to recommended Accommodations. When making reservations, please be sure to ask for the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø rate.

Parking

Guest parking passes are not required for Family Weekend. Parents may park in all student and faculty/staff lots. 

Siblings and Guests

Guests are welcome, and we encourage you to bring siblings. (Book a campus tour while you are here!)

Pets

Pets are allowed on campus and must be leashed at all times.  However, we ask that you refrain from taking them inside buildings, as others may be allergic.  Clean-up is the sole responsibility of the pet’s owner.

Dress

We encourage casual, comfortable dress for the weekend.
