LaNea Winston, 51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s Director of Advising Resources, has been recognized by with the Excellence in Advising–Academic Administrator Award for the Mid-Atlantic Region.

NACADA, the global community for academic advising, gives this award to individuals who demonstrate qualities and practices that make significant contributions to the improvement of academic advising.

Winston leads a one-person operation in support of academic advising as part of the Higgins Academic Center. In her role, she works closely with faculty advisors, who meet with students at every step of their academic journey. She also works directly with students. Her nomination speaks to her success in providing support for faculty advisors, and a data-driven, collaborative approach to programs that improve belonging, and thereby, retention for students.

Writing in support of Winston’s nomination, Associate Dean for Student Support Jill Grant commented, “Since Ms. Winston joined RMC in April 2019, she has elevated the College’s first-year student success course and evolved services to best suit the ever-changing needs of our students and faculty alike. Perhaps most significantly, she has identified needs centered on belonging and inclusion and designed additional supports to fill an increasingly urgent need.â€

Winston was recognized during the Region 2 Conference this April, and the award included a professional development stipend.
