The Higgins Academic Center (HAC) provides programs and services to support student success from pre-registration to graduation. The HAC is committed to working with the college community to create a culture of academic achievement, enhance learning, and help students develop lifelong learning skills.

Welcome from the Associate Dean for Student Support

Whether you are a first-year student, transfer student or a graduating senior, the Higgins Academic Center is an important resource that’ll likely be part of your academic journey. It is helpful to think about the HAC as a holistic support for students; one where we are not so much a collection of separate offices, but rather we are a center in which the staff work together to provide an interlocking network of support.

The HAC has compiled resources and shared them on our webpage as a companion to the information you will learn when engaging with our center, and throughout your collegiate career.

We look forward to working with you and watching you reach your academic goals!

The offices that make up the Higgins Academic Center include:

academic advising

The Office of Advising Resources coordinates academic advising for the college.  Additionally, Academic Advising Resources is responsible for making advisor assignments, providing resources related to the advising process and serves as a resource for faculty, staff, and students.

academic writing and speaking

Academic Writing & Speaking provides students with peer writing and oral communication support, with writing and academic speaking tutors. Director Dr. Seth Clabough also works directly with students and in RMC classes, at the request of faculty.

new student orientation and transitions

The Office of New Student Orientation and Transitions provides ongoing programs in and services that support new students through their transition to RMC.  It also oversees the New Student Transition Captains, who work closely with students throughout their first year.

disability services

51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s Office of Disability Services is responsible for assisting students who qualify with identifying and obtaining reasonable accommodations to support access for students. Any student who has a diagnosed disability, or who is experiencing significant difficulty in his or her classes, should consider whether a consultation with Disability Services might be beneficial.

subject tutoring and learning support

The Office of Subject Tutoring and Learning Support partners students with tutors and peer mentors.  All tutors are faculty nominated, and nationally certified by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA).  Tutoring is available for nearly all subjects taught at the College, and is free and unlimited. Peer Academic Coaches are also available to help students examine their process of working, time management habits and current difficulties or barriers to success.
